I am not really a fan of the AI wave we are currently experiencing. For our society and humans in general, I think it is a bad thing. In my opinion, everything bad we have ever seen in movies about AI is what we’ll end up with — we can’t help ourselves. It’s not that it can’t be helpful; it’s because we put too much faith and hope into a machine deciding for us. The meek shall inherit the earth will be more true than ever, as those who do not rely on technology will survive after the disaster that awaits. AI devalues the individual, and at some point, there could be an uprising against the AI-everything model we are currently choosing. I hope that it is more of a wallet-based rebellion than a human-based one.
Am I a hypocrite?
I do use AI in very simple situations, spell check (Grammarly), code creation (ChatGPT), and Photoshop (nano banana for image correction, not creation). I could easily live without these tools and still be perfectly happy. I honestly wrestle with using it, but without a human resource at my disposal, I opt for the easy way out. I know that is a little hypocritical, and at some point will draw the line.
